Helping you achieve the fullness of your potential

Jonathan Barber brings a rich blend of knowledge and experience to his coaching. His enquiring mind, sense of adventure, and willingness to take on challenges way beyond what his circumstances would typically allow have given him a unique blend of education and expertise in his field.

He has been coaching endurance sports athletes for 25 years. As a former professional triathlete (15 years), former professional cyclist (2 years) and an international competitor in 3 additional sports he brings vast personal experience to his coaching. Jonathan has studied Exercise Physiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also a certified coach with USA Triathlon, USA Swimming and USA Cycling.

The mental aspect of sport performance has been getting a lot of attention lately. Jonathan is a certified Mental Coach with the International Olympic Committee, and is near completion of studies in Sport Psychology through Liberty University.

His business experience comes from owning 4 of his own businesses, and managing a number of highly successful small to mid sized corporations. Over the past 12 years he has worked as an independent business consultant on some exciting projects in a wide variety of industries. He has completed a number of leadership and management courses, has studied business at Duke University and holds an Executive MBA from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

Life experience is often what helps a counselor feel empathy and find common ground with those they are trying to help. Although Jonathan has extensive coursework in psychology and pastoral counseling it is his life experience, and the lessons learnt along the way, that make him an effective mentor, counselor and friend. After growing up in South Africa Jonathan emigrated to the USA at age 24 - with 68 cents in his pocket. He raced his first pro triathlon in the US on a bicycle he build from parts discarded in the local bike shop dumpster. His life has been such that he has had to overcome many challenges, and he has learnt how to deal effectively with everything that life can, and often will send our way.

Brenda, Kona-Hawaii

I can’t say enough about how Jonathan’s coaching has helped me.  The first race I did (70.3) I improved my time by 25 minutes.  He is now helping me train for Ironman Kona and workouts can’t be going any better.  I appreciate how workouts are full of quality and meaning, instead of just quantity. He is always intentional about what he does and will always explain and answer questions.  Training is enjoyable instead of stressful.  He brings a lot of experience to the table, is a good motivator, and super easy to work with.

Brian, Bellingham-WA

Trust is non-negotiable when working with a triathlon coach.  You put your full faith in him/her to give you the workouts and advice you need to prepare for your event(s) so you can focus on implementing rather than wondering if you’re doing the right sessions, tapering at the right time, etc.  I put my trust in Jonathan to get me ready for my A race and those leading up to it, and I was very glad I did.  PRs on all races.  Can’t ask for more than that!

Belden, Durham-NC

I had the privilege of learning and growing with Jonathan while training to qualify for Boston. My experience exceeded my wildest expectations.. I felt comfortable, challenged and confident. Jonathan was always supportive especially when I needed to make changes to our plan for travel or work. Jonathan prepared me well and I was able run a qualifying time and set a PR. His constant support, knowledge, and passion fueled my race. Jonathan is THE BEST!
